Lowe, Anna

Anna Lowe is a graduate student in the Ocean Science department at the University of California, Santa Cruz.  She is interested in coastal ocean’s circulation and how the circulation moves fish larvae influencing the distribution of populations.  She uses the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) to simulate the circulation off the central California coast. Then, she seeds the model with “particles” representative of fish larvae to determine where the circulation transports larvae and identify mechanisms (winds, tides, wave-transport, etc.) that lead to larvae successfully settling in nearby kelp forests. She is participating in the PDP program to build leadership skills and practice designing inquiry activities.
